Skin Rejuvenation

Med Spa of Virginia Total Wellness Center offers two laser techniques for Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation: the Lumenis M22 IPL and the Lumenis M22 ResurFX.

IPL

The IPL module utilizes SapphireCool Light Guides to provide continuous cooling to maximize patient comfort during the procedure. The IPL module is a proven method of minimizing the appearance of: pigmented lesions, unwanted hair, vascular lesions, rosacea, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.

ResurFX

ResurFX uses a fiber laser and innovative scanner for non-ablative skin resurfacing. The ResurFX is unique in that treatment only requires one pass for optimal results! This protects the patient’s skin and reduces the amount of time a treatment session takes. The ResurFX is used for non-ablative skin resurfacing and commonly treats: pigmentation problems, age spots, fine lines & wrinkles, acne scars & surgical scars, textural irregularities, and lax skin.

ResurFX can be combined with an IPL Photofacial for a state-of-the-art anti-aging Photofractional treatment. ResurFX is also perfectly suited to be combined with injectable treatments such as dermal fillers and neuromodulators such as Botox.

How does it work?

Laser light is absorbed by pigmented areas where it is converted to heat, causing a breakup in the pigment. In broken capillaries and spider veins, the laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the blood and collapses the unwanted vein. For wrinkles and skin toning, the laser stimulates collagen growth. We will analyze your skin condition and help you select the most effective treatment for you.

When will you see results?

Effects are cumulative. After the first treatment you will see improvements to broken capillaries, small facial veins and some pigmented areas within a few days. Other improvements such as wrinkle reduction and toning will be more subtle and may take one to three months. Friends may suggest that you look more rested. With each subsequent treatment, subtle changes will accumulate until you have achieved the improvement you desire.

How often can you have it done?

A series of three to six treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart, is our standard recommendation. Occasionally, more treatments may be needed for certain individuals or conditions. Periodic occasional maintenance treatments may be prescribed for optimal, lasting results.

What can you expect immediately post-treatment?

Immediately following the procedure you may experience some redness, swelling and/or a slight darkening of pigmented areas. The redness and swelling usually dissipate within one to three days however, darkened pigmentation may persist and peel lightly for up to one week. Makeup can be applied to the treated area immediately, if necessary. Additionally, hair growth may be impaired in the treated area, although it is not the intended purpose of this particular treatment. It is extremely important to apply a moisturizer with SPF30 sun block and avoid sun exposure on a daily basis to prevent additional sun damage.

How long does it take?

This treatment takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
